In my photographic work, I explore different ideologies and ironies that happen in the world around us. We live in a world that is saturated with visual misrepresentations of women. With all types of advertising, many of us do not think past what our eyes notice. If we allow ourselves to look past just another “pretty face” we can become aware of the irony when women model products. Products normally lose their form or function when models advertise them. The models used to demonstrate the products detract from the actual product. In reality most models have never tried or consumed those products. Candy in particular is one product that models are often photographed with. We live through seeing. We are told visually to think that there are women in the world who look skinny and perfect no matter what they eat. People do not necessarily judge them in an advertisement, but if they were to be seen off-camera eating this way people would think less of them. Models have to watch their weight and are required to be skinny. If they were to consume these products they would essentially be going against everything they have been framed to be.
